"Mountain Kilimanjaro the roof of Africa."
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and reassigned to your hotel in Moshi town; you will meet your guide who will provide the brief on your upcoming trek and have an equipment check to make sure you have all the necessary mountain gear.
Our day will commence by driving to the village of Nale Moru which the starting point of the Rongai route. The trek will first go through farmland and pine forests, where you will have a chance to see the Colobus monkeys, elephants or buffalos if only you’re lucky enough in the route. Our first camp will be the Simba Camp located at the perimeters of the moorland zone at 2625m.
We will hike from Simba camp up to Kibo 3482m for lunch which will be at First Caves, a distance of 5.8km. After lunch we proceed our trekking until Kikelewa Camp at about 3679 metres. The views start to unfasten and you will be able visualise different features of the mountain. Water can be found in a palpable stream below the cave. You will Enjoy dinner and an overnight at Kikelewa camp.
Leaving the pine forest behind us carry on with a stable ascent walking through moorland. There are fabulous views of the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim of Kibo, the highest of the three volcano peaks which shapes the mountain. We will depart from the main trail and thump out across moorland on a smaller path towards the serrated peaks of Mawenzi. We will camp in the sheltered valley near Kikelewa caves at 3630m.
A short but steep climb up grassy slopes offers fabulous views of this wilderness area. The vegetation zone ends shortly before you reach your next camp at Mawenzi Tarn spectacularly situated beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. This will be the end of our trek for the day, we will spend the afternoon acclimatizing and exploring the area.
We leave our campsite and cross the lunar desert of the ‘saddle’ between Mawenzi and Kibo After a couple of hours trekking, to reach this fabulous place, with the summit of Kilimanjaro in the backdrop and our trail to the high camp unyielding out before our eyes. reaching our camp we will all have a rest and prepare for land ascent to thesummit.
Our summit day will commence around midnight which will be long and exhausting. Going through the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, and then climbing slowly and certainly. At sunrise, you will reach Gillman’s Point (5681m) – the crater rim of Mount Kilimanjaro – where the sun will slowly start to warm up the land. You will have forget the cold of the night and have the warmth and after a further hike of 1 – 2 hours, you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m where you will be having a paranomic view. On our descent we will have our meal at Kibo hut followed by a rest for 2hours before descending back to Horombo Hut.
From the Horombo Hut we will pass through the heath and moor zone to the Mandara Hut (2700m) where we will be taking a warm lunch. Then you will once again pass the tropical rainforest and after a trek of 6 hours, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m). You will then say goodbye to your mountain guides, and board your vehicles back to your hotel/lodge in Moshi. Where you will have a warm shower before proceeding with other personal activities.
