6 Days Kilimanjaro Rongai Route

"Mountain Kilimanjaro the roof of Africa."

Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania

You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and reassigned to your hotel in Moshi town; you will meet your guide who will provide the brief on your upcoming trek and have an equipment check to make sure you have all the necessary mountain gear.

Day 1: Nalemoru Gate (1990m) to Simba Camp (2625m)

Our day will commence by driving to the village of Nale Moru which the starting point of the Rongai route. The trek will first go through farmland and pine forests, where you will have a chance to see the Colobus monkeys, elephants or buffalos if only you’re lucky enough in the route. Our first camp will be the Simba Camp located at the perimeters of the moorland zone at 2625m.

Day 2: Simba camp (2626m) – Kikelewa Camp (3679m)

We will hike from Simba camp up to Kibo 3482m for lunch which will be at First Caves, a distance of 5.8km. After lunch we proceed our trekking until Kikelewa Camp at about 3679 metres. The views start to unfasten and you will be able visualise different features of the mountain. Water can be found in a palpable stream below the cave. You will Enjoy dinner and an overnight at Kikelewa camp.

Day 3: Kikelewa Cave (3679m) – Mawenzi Tarn camp (4303m)

A short but steep climb up grassy slopes offers fabulous views of this wilderness area. The vegetation zone ends shortly before you reach your next camp at Mawenzi Tarn spectacularly situated beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. This will be the end of our trek for the day, we will spend the afternoon acclimatizing and exploring the area.

Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn camp (4303m) – Kibo hut (4730m)

After breakfast we will resume ascending on the east side of Kibo crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo taking about 4 to 5 hours to reach Kibo Hut. Reaching our destination we will have a rest waiting for the next day.

Day 5 – Kibo hut (4730m) – UHURU PEAK (5895m) – Horombo hut (3705m)

We will commence our trek at around midnight, where we will move from Kibo Hut to Hans Meyer Cave 5150m although our we will encounter a rocky path.we will move in a meanderpath heading to Gillmans point (5681m) which isfound on the rim of the crater, the area is very steep with a lot of stone scree requiring a great physical and mental effort. This is probably the most demanding segment of the entire route. From Gillmans Point you will normally encounter snow all the way up to Uhuru peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa.
Time spent on the on the peak is highly determined by the weather conditions; before the 3 hour descent back to Kibo hut. After a short rest at Kibo hut, you will head down to Horombo hut for your overnight this might be surprisingly fast. The total time spent walking on this day is around 14 hours, so be prepared for a very tough day.reaching the Horombo camp in the evening you will have an enjoyable dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep, filled with spectacular memories and thrilling emotions.

Day 6: Horombo hut (3705m) – Marangu Gate (1860m)

After breakfast you commence your descent (6 hours), passing the Mandara hut, down to the Marangu gate. At Marangu gate you sign your name and details in a register. This is also where flourishing climbers receive their summit certificates. Those climbers who reached Gillman’s Point (5685m) are issued with green certificates and those who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m), receive gold certificates. you will board your vehicles back yours hotels in Moshi.
